Contemporary Kitchen Addition
This north Idaho family wanted a whole new kitchen. Ideal for entertaining large groups of people and with plenty of functionality for their growing family of 6. The kitchen would be situated in a brand new 15’ addition with a built in walk in pantry.
The kitchen had to mimic their new contemporary style and also fit with their craftsman style home. The architectural features such as the vaulted ceiling and alder beams mimic the craftsman style home. The daylighting scheme including the skylights, gable window, large cantilevered bar window and small side-lights with the black trim finish is a contemporary touch.
The western cabinet wall is a false wall, above there is a beam supporting the load of the roof while the tall cabinets create a faux wall that ends at the pocket door to the walk in pantry. The large eastern window opens out to cantilever over a quartz bar which opens up the kitchen in summer for seamless entertaining.
The alder cabinets and marbled quartz countertop mimic an already remodeled mud room in the home, the floor pattern will carry on out of the mud room to mimic leaves floating in the wind. All appliances will be very modern to soften the craftsman look.
